The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of discrimination is: 

* a : the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually
* b : prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment <racial discrimination> 

In the conceptual framework of categorism, bigotry is categorism done through acts, especially acts of mistreating people based on categorization. 

Together with [[prejudice]] and [[bigotry]], discrimination is one of the three [[archetypical facets of categorism]].  See also [[From categorization to categorism]].

Note that there are many different definitions of "discrimination". One such discrimination is "any act that violates a law against discrimination". This particular form of discrimination is a facet of categorism, known as [[illegal discrimination]].
