Hate-crimes

Hate is one of the most volatile forms of bigotry, with strong potential to lead to violent hate-crimes and other forms of persecution once it becomes established as the social norm in a group. (In Swedish: Hatbrott)

This facet of categorism is an expression of bigotry.

Interactions with other facets

Hate-crimes is likely to intersect with facets such as:

• Stigmatization: Low level hate-crimes are often a matter of stigmatizing people.
• Violence: As the hate-crimes escalates, they often erupt in violent acts (on the individual level) and an atmosphere (on the systemic level) where violent acts are expected.

As well as with abstractions such as:

• Dichotomism: "Are you with us, or are you with them?"
• Privateermongering: Permitting (and thus directly or indirectly inciting) attacks.

Examples of applying this facet to a particular foci of categorism can include:

• Racism: A white supremacist group spreading hateful propaganda against people of color, escalating to incite violence.
