The Merriam-Webster dictionary definition of discrimination is:
- a : the act, practice, or an instance of discriminating categorically rather than individually
- b : prejudiced or prejudicial outlook, action, or treatment <racial discrimination>
In the conceptual framework of categorism, bigotry is categorism done through acts, especially acts of mistreating people based on categorization.
Together with prejudice and bigotry, discrimination is one of the three archetypical facets of categorism.
