Dichotomization

The act of creating or recreating a dichotomy, thus defining categories and other concepts against each other. Dichotomization is part of the dicanaization triad of how people construct their internal realities and social realities, central to the building of discourse.

Dichotomization is a neutral concept. Contrast to the negatively loaded concept of dichotomism, where people are stuck in dichotomies rather than using them in a constructive manner.
